Forgive me followers for I have slacked; it's been 2 months since my last post...

Okay, I know it’s been like forever and a day since I’ve posted and I’m sorry about that.  My priorities have changed a bit.  I’m still all about fitness and striving to be as healthy as I can.  It’s still a struggle.  It always will be.  I’m finally starting to accept that.  I’m currently about 10 pounds over my goal weight and 15 or so over where I’d really love to be sitting at when I step on the scale.  But you know what?  I’m okay with it.  Why?  Because I’ve still worked very hard for where I am right now.  I’m fairly stable and maintaining even if I do eat junk far too often.  The other day, I was hanging out with one my really good friends, Hannah, and I said “I’m hungry” at one point and she said “I know, you’re always hungry.”  Then she went on to say that it was because my metabolism was so high from all my working out.  I didn’t even think about that.  I just think about how I haven’t run in almost a month outside of the short runs I do in the Burn and Fit classes at Gold’s Gym.

So, when I say my priorities have changed, I really, seriously mean that they’ve CHANGED.  Running isn’t my #1 anymore.  I’m not going to lie…that does make me a little sad.  Like part of me died, you know?  But I’m still working out.  I’m just more focused on strength and skill right now over endurance training.  Of course, I do have 2 marathons coming up later this year in November and December, so next month I will have to start running somewhat regularly again.  But I think these will be my last marathons.  At least for now.  I just don’t want to anymore.  It’s not that it’s too hard, it’s just that…well, I don’t know how to say it.  The “umph” for it just isn’t there right now.  I want to do other things for now.  I want to buy another mountain bike and start doing some trail riding.  I’m really enjoying the studio classes at the gym.  Plus I’ve got the combat fitness physical fitness test for my job coming up in August that I’ve started training for.  So I usually try and do that workout on Sundays.

Also, if you follow me on Instagram then you’ll have noticed (or maybe you didn’t, but that’s okay too) that I changed my nickname on there.  I’m now @amerikanvalkyrie.  You see, I’ve been doing a bit of costume making lately.  I’m making a Viking warrior woman costume and it’s coming along nicely.  It will be completed by the end of August if all goes as planned…well in time for the Texas Renaissance Festival Thanksgiving weekend where me and my friends will be camping for 4 nights!  I’m so excited for that!  Anyway, a Viking warrior woman is not a Valkyrie, I’m sure you know.  My plans for my costume include me making wings next year!  I’ll be building a frame and then affixing probably 100’s of turkey feathers to it.  The wings will [hopefully] be amazing and epic…and not a drastic failure.

Last month I took an epic road trip.  I visited Mesa Verde National Park in SW Colorado.  Then onto Vegas for a couple days to celebrate a best friend’s daughter’s 21st birthday.  Then I made my way to Oregon and Washington to visit family and a few friends.  On my way back to Texas I drove through California and spent almost an entire day in San Francisco, running across the Golden Gate Bridge (the last time I ran, by the way).  After my day in SF I met up with a long time internet friend…we’ve been friends on the internet since MySpace!  Crazy, right?  Well we finally met in person and she’s awesome and so is her family and her dog.  Then I went to a great little town called Parkfield (population 18) and hung out for about 6 hours with friends I made at the 5K I ran on New Year’s Day, Paige and Ian of Feline Nomad blog fame (you should totally check them out, they have amazing adventures).  I made my final stop of the trip at Carlsbad Caverns and a great little restaurant in Carlsbad, NM called The Lucky Bull.  This was the most amazing vacation road trip I’ve had to date.  Hands down, totally serious.

I’m still scrapbooking in my Project Life album.  Right now I’m thick in the process of playing catch up with my main album for the year of 2017 by adding in the highlights from my vacation and then I’ll start working on catching up what’s happened since my vacation.  Ugh!  Also, I’m creating a completely separate album for my 2017 road trip!  What have I gotten myself into?  Seriously.  I have about 300 photos, plus patches, plus stickers, plus a postcard, plus receipts, plus ticket stubs, plus brochures…sheesh…that will be going into this trip album!  So I’ll say it again…what have I gotten myself into?  But seriously, I’m going to cherish these albums forever.  I’ll get to look back and remember the awesome time I had for 16 days.  Sure I spent way too much money during that time, but I don’t regret it.  It was worth every cent.  And besides, who doesn’t spend too much money when on vacation?

So, I just wanted you all to know that I have NOT forgotten about you, I’ve just been taking a bit of a hiatus and regathering myself and figuring out what I’m wanting out of life right now.
