Friday’s
9.6 mile run was a little rough. My calves
were so achy and tired. I kept having to
stop and rest when I really didn’t feel the need for it other than my legs felt
like they couldn’t go any further without a rest. On top of that, ALL DAY Friday, my calves
were fatigued and achy. I could not get
comfortable while I was sitting all evening at work. So, I went yesterday to my favorite running
store, Hill Country Running, to see about buying some compression sleeves for
my calves.
Then,
in the evening yesterday, after running errands, I was laying on the couch and
no matter what position I put my legs in, they were not comfortable and
continued to be achy. So, I went
yesterday to my favorite running store, Hill Country Running, to see about
buying some compression sleeves for my calves.
However, I have 16” calves and they only had the compression sleeves
that fit up to 15” calves. Ugh. And it was too late in the day to go to
another running store because all of them were about to close. So I had to wait until today.
I
found another running store, Texas Running Store, that was sort of near where I
live and they had sleeves in my size!
YAY! I got plain white ones
because they go with everything. I wore
them on my 10 mile run (that turned into 10.1 miles) tonight and my legs feel
soooo much better than they did on Friday.
They’re still a little achy, but it’s mostly my feet and Achilles tendons
that are achy, not my calves. When I started
out running with the sleeves for the first mile and a half, my shins were a
little achy, but then they settled down and it was smooth running. I will definitely wear the sleeves when I do
any run longer than 9 miles.
Good idea. I have really tight calves right now, painful since Saturday, and this is a good reminder -- maybe I should sport mine under my work clothes today and on my run tomorrow. Couldn't hurt...
