2013 Year In Review

I found this little questionnaire on another blog I follow and thought it would be a great way to look back on 2013.

1. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?

ran a 5K, an 8K, a 10K, a 15K, and a half marathon.  :)

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I didn’t make any “resolutions” but I did make goals.  And yes, I achieved every goal I set out for myself…except for reaching my goal weight.  I have already set out my goals for 2014 (HERE), but I think I want to add another one to the list…ride my bicycle more often.  I’d like to cycle once a week.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

I know people that gave birth, but no one close to me.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Thank god no!  But a friend did attempt suicide, which was traumatic for me as it triggered my PTSD and lead to the 2.5 month running hiatus.  Also, my remaining grandpa is very ill right now and is basically housebound with the exception of doctor’s visits.

5. What countries did you visit?

none.  Didn’t even leave the state.

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?

to complete a full marathon!  But, I didn’t really lack that in 2013 because I wasn’t ready for it and it wasn’t on the schedule for the year.

7. What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

4/15/13.  Boston.  Do I really need to say more?
10/20/13…my 1 year anniversary of running
11/17/13…that’s the day of my first official half marathon and my first ever race bling.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

running…and sticking with it!
And, also, winning the fitness competition I participated in

9. What was your biggest failure?

a 2.5 month hiatus from running and most working out…and a 13 pound weight gain after winning the fitness competition I participated in.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I had a short stint with bursitis in my hip, but after a few PT sessions I was as good as new

11. What was the best thing you bought?

there was my new TV, all the new décor for my apartment, but the best things I bought for the money I spent on them were the thermoelectric cooler (easily $150 new, I paid $30) and the Bissell SpotLifter (goes for $45-50 new, I paid $10).  Oh, and the purchase I am most proud of?  The IKEA chair with the removeable/washable slip cover that I found at Goodwill for $13 (this chair is about $150 new).

12. Where did most of your money go?

to a full makeover in my apartment.  I cleaned it out and redecorated it!  there is still one or two things that need to be donated and replaced (eyesore of a dresser that I’m using as an entertainment credenza in my living room for one), but for the most part, yea…I redid just about everything in my apartment.

13. What did you get really excited about?

running my first half marathon

14. What song will always remind you of 2013?

I have to say “Roar” by Katy Perry because it just embodies how I feel about 2013.  I definitely became my own hero in 2013 and that’s what that song means to me.  My second choice would have to be “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys…even though it didn’t come out in 2013, it fit how I felt after a lot of things I accomplished.  I truly felt like I was on fire!  Haha!

15. Compared to this time last year, are you:

– happier or sadder? Happier…definitely happier
– thinner or fatter? Thinner, but only by about 5 pounds, thanks to that 13 pound regain
– richer or poorer? About the same

16. What do you wish you’d done more of?

running.  And eating better.

17. What do you wish you’d done less of?

eating crap

18. How did you spend Christmas?

I worked a 16 hour day at work.  no family near me, so why not, right?

19. What was your favorite TV program?

Big Bang Theory…there are others, but that’s the only one I can think of right now…haha

20. What were your favorite books of the year?

I read a fair amount of running books…I also read the current final book in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.

21. What was your favorite music from this year?

hard rock, bmp, edm, top 40…same as usual J

22. What were your favorite films of the year?

this is going to sound ridiculous, but I actually don’t remember what movies I saw in 2013

23. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I spent the day with my bestie, Amanda.  We went to a small town xmas festival, thrift and craft shopping, then we watched a marathon of Silk Stockings

24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

if I had been able to reach my goal weight or at least maintain the low weight I did reach without regaining anything

25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

I bought a bunch of skinny jeans that I really love, but continue to wear the same low-rise bootcut jeans.  Haha!

26. What kept you sane?

running…seriously.  If it wasn’t for running, I would have fallen apart many times throughout the year

27. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.

I won't be healthy and active forever, so I should appreciate it now.  (stole this answer from CARINA)
